Media Lawyer

Telenor Group Legal is advising Group Executive Management, Group Units in Telenor ASA, Telenor Norway and Telenor's Nordic and Asia Clusters. Group Legal’s prime focus is on risk management in major projects and matters of strategic, operational and/or financial significance within its areas of responsibility. We are now looking for a new colleague to join our team in the position as Lawyer.

In this role, you will primarily provide legal support to Telenor’s Nordic Content Team. This is a centralised team responsible for the acquisition of content distributed through Telenor’s TV-services such as T-We to subscribers in the Nordic Region. We have two other colleagues working closely with the Nordic Content Team today, and you will be a part of a team in Group Legal consisting of 6 lawyers and 2 paralegals, led by Christian Lindqvist, Head of the Contracts & Content Team in Group Legal.

This is an exciting position within a successful and international global telecommunications and content provider. You will have the opportunity to work on challenging issues of high importance to Telenor, as well as work closely with a team of highly skilled and engaged negotiators. You will provide legal support in relation to a large range of matters including:

  • Negotiating and drafting content acquisition and distribution agreements with national and international broadcasters, other right holders and global providers of streaming services.
  • Securing clearance of music rights and related rights with collecting societies.
  • Managing and following up litigation and disputes and managing external counsel in several jurisdictions.
  • Handling the full range of legal issues arising in connection with Telenor's TV-services, including compliance with media-, broadcasting- and marketing laws.
  • Provision of strategic advice to the Nordic Content Team in achieving business goals whilst at the same time protecting the interests of Telenor ASA.
  • Development of best practice and standardization of contract templates.
  • Follow up of external stakeholders such as Cable Norway, Ministry of Culture, Media Authority and Consumer Authority.
  • Ensure alignment with Telenor Group’s governing principles and policies.
  • Liaising with the Local Legal Departments in our Nordic Business Units.

We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Master of law or equivalent and strong academic results.
  • Lawyers (advokat or advokatfullmektig) with 2-3 years' experience of working for a law firm or as in-house counsel within the media, and/or telecom industries.
  • Experience of drafting and reviewing media- and content distribution agreements and/or licensing and clearance of music rights.
  • Strong understanding of contract law combined with good knowledge of one or more of the following legal fields: IPR, media law and regulation, privacy and marketing laws.
  • Experience from working on cross-border projects is preferable.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (English and Norwegian, Danish or Swedish).
